Sushi Essentials - Intro
The world of sushi making is endlessly varied. The combinations of sushi fillings, toppings, sauces and equipment used are endless and growing. We can not possibly describe all the sushi making possibilities, but we sure will try to! In this section of Make my Sushi, we will try and best inform you with both popular and underground sushi essentials to best equip you, the home sushi maker, with the tools to invent your own sushi. On the left panel, you will find a list of popular and underground sushi essentials. By essentials we mean all you can use to make your sushi roll, from salmon fillet to rice cooker. In each page you will find a detailed description of that essential sushi unit, along with ways of recognizing it, using it, making it at home or buying it in stores. Enjoy rolling! |

Check your area for a large Asian market for the best options on nori seaweed and fresh sushi-grade fish.
This kind of depends on what you're going for. Sushi rice, season vinegar, nori and other basics can easily be found at a Walmart or even Price Chopper or smaller chains in the Asian section. Fish, however, you kind of need to be careful with. I would suggest going to an actual fish merchant of some sort and asking either for sushi grade or the cleanest types of fish they have. Veggies can be bought where ever you want but avoid walmart if you want something actually fresh.
